Social Media Journey
Devya began her journey as a content creator in 2020. “I had been an avid watcher of ASMR,” she recalls, “and I remember during my school days, I really wanted to become a YouTuber.” The lockdown period that followed her completion of 12th grade provided the perfect opportunity to dive into content creation. Her passion for ASMR drove her to explore this niche, aiming to bring more Indian ASMR content to the audience, which was largely missing at the time. “People, including myself, were primarily watching foreign creators,” she notes. Her main goal was to help people sleep and relax, just as ASMR had done for her. “Before discovering it, it was very hard for me to sleep, but after watching ASMR, I could doze off in a matter of minutes.
In the early days, ASMR wasn’t widely popular in India, and her videos did not receive many views or much recognition. However, the small community that did discover her content showed immense love and support. “They would share how my videos helped them through their mental struggles and sleep issues, and that meant so much to me,” she shares.
Initially, Devya began her ASMR journey with English videos. However, her viewers suggested that she try making videos in Hindi. She decided to experiment and quickly realized she enjoyed creating content in Hindi much more. “I was adding a personal touch, which created a better connection and experience for my viewers. It is also more relaxing for them to watch ASMR in their mother tongue,” she explains. The opportunity to promote her language and culture through her content felt incredibly rewarding.
Over time, ASMR began to gain popularity in India, and Devya successfully cultivated a small, tight-knit community of followers. “I love the bond I have with my supporters,” she says, describing the community as positive and supportive. Even during periods when she couldn’t remain consistent with her uploads, her community continued to encourage and motivate her. “They’ve been amazing, and I feel so grateful.”
Earlier this year, Devya ventured into creating Instagram reels for fun. While she hasn’t been consistent on YouTube lately, she is planning to make a return soon.
Devya also gives special mention to her family, who have been incredibly supportive throughout her journey. “Even though ASMR was a new concept for them, they were really understanding and willing to learn about it,” she says. Now, her family even helps her with ideas and shooting, making her feel truly fortunate.
Devya’s story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and community in the world of content creation. As ASMR continues to grow in popularity in India, she remains a pioneer in the field, helping her audience relax, sleep better, and discover the joys of ASMR in their own language.
